About CAIA

CAIA : Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst

Dedicated to alternative investments, this certification is issued by the CAIA Association.

The CAIA designation demonstrates mastery of alternative investment concepts, tools, and practices and promotes adherence to the highest standards of professional conduct. It is a proof that you have the core competencies required to create, manage, and monitor an institutional-quality portfolio consisting of both traditional and alternative investments.

The CAIA diverse curriculum appeals to investment advisors, consultants and analysts, fund managers and administrators, accountants, lawyers, academics, as well as compliance and back office personnel.

CAIA Exam Format

To obtain the certification one should succeed in two exams. Alternative investment topics covered in the CAIA exam include:

  • Hedge Funds

  • Commodities and Managed Futures

  • Private Equity

  • Real Assets

  • Credit Derivatives and Structured Products

  • Professional Standards and Ethics

Examinations are last for five hours and are computer-based. Level I examination is composed of 200 multiple choice questions focusing on foundations is alternative investment and Level II examination includes both 100 multiple choice and 3 constructed-response (essay-type).
